As most geeks probably want to do when they start creating 3D artwork, in July of 2000 I created my first digital lightsaber. This was the result:

Not too shabby, I think. In November 2000, I moved up to a fully animated version. It's been revised several times since then, and at some point I still want to make it into a screensaver. The original intent of the animation was to be a schematic for the lightsaber, highlighting the various components as listed in the Star Wars Visual Dictionary. The style is meant to be like the animations you see on viewscreens in the background for science fiction shows.
